2011 AFO: Sale, Victoria

Andrew Clay The 2011 Australian Floorball Open(AFO) was held in Sale, Victoria. This AFO was one of the sport’s biggest with 13 men’s teams, 6 women’s teams and 2 junior teams competing in the event. This includes 2 teams from Singapore (a men’s and a women’s team) and a men’s team from New Zealand. Wollongong was able to field one team for the event, but 3 players from the Wollongong area helped to field other teams with 2 players splaying for the Vikings(VIC) and one player playing for the Sale junior team.
Western Exports from Western Australia won the men’s division of the event over Story Bridge(QLD) in a high scoring final, 7-3. Litto FC from Singapore took out the women’s division in a 4-3 win over the Vipers(NSW). Pakenham won the junior division of the open in a very close final game.
Wollongong FC finished 5th in their pool and just missed out on a spot in the finials. The Vikings were knocked out in the quarter finals losing 4-1 to Story Bridge.
